Transient Instability in Case II Diffusion
نویسنده
چکیده
A well-known model of one-dimensional Case II diffusion is reformulated in two dimensions. This 2-D model is used to study the stability of 1-D planar Case II diffusion to small spatial perturbations. An asymptotic solution based on the assumption of small perturbations and a small driving force is developed. This analysis reveals that while 1-D planar diffusion is indeed asymptotically stable to small spatial perturbations, it may exhibit a transient instability. That is, although any small perturbation is damped out over sufficiently long times, the amplitude of any perturbation initially grows with time. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Diffusion Process for GX/G/M Queuing System with Balking and Reneging
In the present investigation transient, G x/G/m queuing model with balking and reneging has been studied. The diffusion process with elementary return boundary has been used for modeling purpose. The probability density function (p. d. f.) for the number of customers in the system has been obtained. In special case, the steady state results that tally with those of Kimura and Ohsone have been e...
متن کاملKINETIC STUDY OF TRR CORE IN FUEL CONVERSION FROM HEU TO LEU
In the conversion of fuel in the Tehran Research Reactor core from Highly- Enriched Uraniutn to Low-Enriched Uranium fuel neutronics analysis, thermal hydraulic calculations and kinetic performance of the core have to be studied. In this study, static and dynamic core performance for HEU and LEU fuels were investigated. In static conditions, two groups of neutron flux distributions in axia...
متن کاملTurbulent diffusion in tall tubes. I. Models for Rayleigh-Taylor instability
Rayleigh-Taylor instability in high-aspect-ratio domains has been studied experimentally and a hierarchy of modelling approaches has been used to understand the dynamics of the problem. Part I examines the simplest case of initially homogenous layers above and below the Rayleigh-Taylor unstable interface. Part II examines the more complex case where one layer is stably stratified in density. He...
متن کاملPrediction of transient instability and unplanned islanding using phasor measurements data
in this paper a new algorithm has been proposed to predict unplanned islanding. To predict unplanned islanding, rotor angle and speed time series have been used. Times of fault occurrence and clearance are estimated using monitoring system response based on the variation of phasor measure data. The estimated times of fault occurrence and clearance are used to determine suitable calculation wind...
متن کاملNonlinear instability and chaos in plasma ‘wave-wave interactions. II. Numerical methods and results
In Part I of this work [Phys. Plasmas 2, 1926 (1995)], the behavior of linearly stable, integrable systems of waves in a simple plasma model was described using a Hamiltonian formulation. Explosive instability arose from nonlinear coupling between positive and negative energy modes, with well-defined threshold amplitudes depending on the physical parameters. In this concluding paper, the nonint...
